Byron and I have attended the Utah Shakespeare Festival for 20 years. We were excited this year to take Ella to her first Festival show, "Peter and the Starcatcher". She has gone with us every year and attended "Festival Nursery, Festival Pre-School, Festival Kindergarten and Festival 1st Grade". We are so grateful that onsite childcare is available. It has been fun for us to see how excited Ella gets for our trip to Cedar City.
In preparation for this year's festival, we read the book, "Peter and the Starcatcher", together as a family. It was a great book and we all really enjoyed it. The play was fun.....didn't quite live up to the anticipated expectations....but Ella was an excellent audience member and enjoyed it very much. The set was amazing with 2 ships on either side with live musicians doing sound effects throughout the show. The acting was wonderful too.
Byron and I always rank the shows that we see. This year our #1 and #2 were both the same..."The Tempest" as #1 and "12 Angry Men" as #2. We also saw, "Loves Labors Lost", "Anything Goes"---which had excellent tap dancing numbers and Byron saw, "King John".
They have a Green Show every night prior to the plays. They do some acting, singing and dancing, etc. Ella really enjoyed them this year. She picked the "Humbug" sucker...who knew...I thought she would pick Strawberry for sure.
Ella participated with the cast doing a dance number. It helped that she saw one of her child care friends dancing too!
We took a nostalgic drive up to Cedar Breaks. We stopped at a campground that we stayed at years ago when we first started coming to the festival. We enjoyed skipping rocks at Navajo Lake.
My brother, Shaun, is going to school at SUU and we spent some time with him....swimming, chatting and enjoying some more Festival Fun.
Byron's mom attended the festival with us again this year. We enjoyed some yummy food while we were there...."The Garden House" is one of our favorite places and it did not disappoint.
